Change of Plans

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile. I actually came home a little early for my first trip because some things are going on here at home that I didn't want to miss out on. I left on the one month mark and flew home by myself. It was a little scary, but praise the Lord that all went well. I am here until the end of August when I'm flying back out to Guatemala until the end of November, about 3 months total. I miss Guatemala more than I thought I would: the kids, the food, the culture, the rain, the green. Now that the month is over, it seems like the month went by so fast, but there were many times when the days were challenging and it seemed like time was going by as slow as possible. I missed my family a lot. During those times, I had to rely on God for comfort and peace, and boy did He give it to me. I felt His presence there more than I ever had before. All in all, it was a great month filled with many exciting moments, and I can't wait to go back. Until then, I'm going to enjoy this time with my family and resume this blog when the time gets closer for me to return.

This Sunday I got to go to church. I got to ride in the back of the truck with Jonathan and Brayan. It was uncomfortable, bumpy, and hot. But probably one of my favorite moments so far. When we got to the church, it was a small building filled with patio chairs. The room was so hot, but everyone was so happy to be there, The worship was unlike anything I've ever experienced. It was very fast pace, everybody clapping/dancing, and one man went crazy on a cow bell! During the worship, some people dropped to their knees and just sang their hearts out. I couldn't understand everything, but it was so beautiful. I've never been to a church where people were more into the worship than this one. Even though it was a different language, I knew we were all praising the same God.

Family Walk

The other day we took all of the kids on a walk. It was crazy, but a lot of fun. People looked at us as if we were a parade. I was in the back with this group.

I just love this baby Alison!

The other babies: Olympia, Merlyn, Humberto, and Ruavis.

Yeni is so sweet at times. She came up to me and pointed to my camera. She then sat down and put her arm around me.

Checha loved being able to roam in his electric wheelchair. He had to be watched though, or else he road head straight for the middle of the road.

This is the tree at the park we walked to. I think it's so cool.

Random Pics

For Brayan's actual birthday I got asked to make and decorate his cake. They like to have the name and age of the kid on the cake. I don't think it turned out that good, but he loved it, and that's all that matters. Here they have a tradition where that whoever's birthday it is they have to take the first bite of cake. Brayan knew this and held his bite up to his mouth and paused for a good while before diving in.

Here's a pic of the catholic church in this town. Someone asked if I knew what the procession meant. I asked the parents at the home and they aren't sure, but think it's just a way to worship.

On one of my walks I saw this truck and immediately thought of the pizza planet truck from toy story.
